Acadia Re-Opening 1/23

Finally!!!  Acadia Cafe will be re-opening at their new location, 329 Cedar Ave. S, Minneapolis, this Wednesday, 1/23.  For those of you unfamiliar with the area, it’s in the Seven Corners area a little bit South of Town Hall and just West of the U of M’s Carlson School.  Kris and I are going to fall on a grenade and stop in that evening to help them work out the bugs with their taps.  *Jeez* The things will do to support good beer in Minnesota.  Hope to see you there.

Second attempt: Uerige Altbier Cask as well as Hambleton Nightmare porter on cask at Bulldog NE tonight!

Assuming all goes smoothly, tonight at the Bulldog NE they will be tapping two casks; the classic Düsseldorf Altbier Uerige Sticke as well as CAMRA award winning Hambleton Nightmare porter.

According to Brad “The Beer Guy”, they should both be up and pouring by 7pm if not earlier.

For more information on these classic beers, see:

Stub & Herbs beer tastings… Help!

Stub and HerbsJon over at Stub & Herbs is looking for some help from homebrewers to pair up with brewery reps to discuss beer styles and compare homebrewed and commercial versions of different styles of beer. Read on:

Stub and Herb’s is starting a monthly beer tasting and beer education in February. We are working on our schedule and could use some help. We would like to pair up a brewery rep and a member of the local homebrewing community at each meeting. We are hoping to pick a few different beer styles to discuss at each meeting and compare some homebrews vs some of the fine craft beers available at local bars and liquor stores. Anyone interested? Any homebrewers that want to get involved, please message me. The only requirements are:

*You have to have some beer for us to sample.

*You have to be willing to speak to a few of us about your homebrew techniques, recipes and setup.

Hope to hear from some of you.

Thanks,

Jon Landers

Interested? Talk to Jon at Stub and Herbs or leave a comment here and we’ll make sure he gets it.

Germany’s UERIGE Brewery of Dusseldorf :

The 1st German Authentic Cask in Minnesota History!

Beer : Traditional Sticke Alt

**** Michael Jackson’s Pocket Guide to Beer, p 36:
“UERIGE …is the most assertive, complex and characterful of the Alts” Düsseldorfer Altbier is one of Germany’s great beer styles. Uerige Alt is in my view the finest example of the style, and one of Germany’s truly great beers. I love it for its big, spicy hop aroma; its firm, malty, middle; and its confidently dry, appetising, finish. No short cuts, no compromises: a beer that punches it weight. Zum Uerige Sticke beautifully retains this balance. It is smooth, complex, elegant and a wonderful aperitif. A generous beer, with a touch of luxury. This beer is brewed with more malt, hops and is much richer than UERIGE Alt. Behind the massive but elegant aroma are hidden 6.5% abv. The unusual name derives from olden days, when the guests would whisper (‘stickum’ being a dialect term for whispering)the master brewer must have been a little too generous when weighing out the ingredients.
