Two New Breweries Go Live: Welcome Pryes Brewing Co. and Fair State Brewing Co-op

newbiesOver the course of the last week or so, two new breweries have launched product for the general public. Fair State delivered their first beer, a hefeweizen, to Grumpy’s NE last Monday. Their taproom is also open for business, though hours are a bit sporadic during their soft opening.

And because one new brewery isn’t enough, Pryes Brewing Co. launched into the market with an IPA, Miraculum, currently available at Burch Steak House, Butcher and The Boar, Libertine, HeyDay and Village Pub.

Congrats everyone! We’re looking for good things from both breweries!

Junkyard Brewery Taproom Kickstarter – Final Days

Confession: I have a soft spot in my heart for the Fargo-Moorhead area in my heart. As a kid, my parents transplanted us to lakes country – Fergus Falls, more specifically. The FM area was “the big city” in our area, and I cut my teeth in those two cities… checking out bands, girls, college and my first sips of craft beer. So when I saw the the fine fellas’ from Junkyard Brewery were running a Kickstarter project to help with their new brewery, I thought I’d pitch in. If you’re someone who’s willing to throw some cash at a Kickstarter project and someone who supports Minnesota-made beer, check this out.

As I write this, they have 6 days left to raise about $1700. If it’s your sort of thing, how about extending a little “Minnesota Nice” to Moorhead?

Brau Brothers Hopfest!

Brau Brothers Brewing Company will play host to their 1st Annual Hopfest this weekend, September 5-7.

Each day music will be played on a stage set up outside the brewery in the parking lot, tours will be offered, the kitchen will have specials on food,  and beer, including a special release of Test Positive Ale*, will be drunk.  There’s something for everyone with Country, Bluegrass, Rock, and Polka! Bring your sunscreen, and be ready to party!

*Test Positive spent several months in used, buggy, whiskey barrels. Fermented on Saccharomyces initially, then aged on lacto + pedio and finally finished with brett, this one serves up some flavor! A bit of chocolate, vanilla, dark cherry/plum, green apple tart, a little funk, and finally a hint of smoke from the barrel. This one is darker in flavor than the Bancreagie Sour (which we will also try to bottle for the weekend). Test Positive will do well with the stinkiest of cheeses! We saved our favorite barrel for barrel pours Friday, Saturday, and (If there’s any left) Sunday

Hey St. Paul… a new taproom is coming your way, and w think it’s going to be pretty damn good! Our friends at Bad Weather Brewing Company will be parting ways with the Lucid Brewing facility in Minnetonka in order to open 12,000 sq ft. taproom and production facility at 414 7th St. W., St. Paul, Minnesota in the first half of 2015.

The fine fellas from Bad Weather Brewing Company got their start in March of 2013, operating under an alternating proprietorship at the Lucid facility. Land of 10,000 Beers Opens Today

StateFairEhxibit2012-27-web

…and so does the Minnesota State Fair, of course. Really though, we’re mostly just excited about the beer. And while the Land of 10,000 Beers Exhibit in the Agriculture/Horticulture Building isn’t the only craft beer venue at the fair, you’re definitely going to want to check it out.

Our friends with the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild have returned with more beer, more breweries and more education. Over the course of the fair, more than 130 different craft beers will be available from almost 35 breweries. Not bad, eh? Once again they’ll offer up a variety of beer flights featuring four different five oz. samples for $8.

Even better? This year they’ll have “Firkin Fridays” and “Rare Flights on the weekends – flights of rare, limited run beers that run the gamut from beer brewed with fruit, barrel-aged beers, smoked beers an more.

The hall will also feature educational programming throughout the week on topics that range from beer styles to agriculture and more.

The Land of 10,000 beers is open from 9am – 9pm the entire run of the fair – August 21st through September 1st. Head to the Agriculture/Horticulture Building on Underwood (between Carnes and Judson) to get your beer on.
